    Hi guys,

I have been looking for a townhouse in Lane Cove and have found one in Lane Cove North Estate, that little apartments and townhouses village right in front Mowbray Park.
I liked pretty much everything about the property and was thinking to bid until I found out the property is right under the flight path. I live 5 mins drive away on Mowbray Rd and didn't notice that many flights are passing in the area. Maybe today is a particular day?
It was quite noisy outside and very frequent(2 airplanes in 3-4 mins)
Does anyone live around here and experience the airplane noise? Is everyday flight traffic like today?

Any input would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Check the anef website.

That area cops the 3rd runway flight path so does Lane Cove West, Riverview & Linley Point.

Planes are quite high, you won't hear them over Epping Rd noise

Flight paths are dependant on winds, so some days you might get them (and if you do, there will be loads of flights), other days you'll get none at all. I tend to think the planes will be quite high where you are thinking of buying so it wouldn't be too bad, but since it would be your place, you need to be happy with it, not me.

Ps. My workplace is in Mascot. Inside the buildings everything is fine, can't hear the planes. But if we go to open air areas, generally you have to pause your conversation when a plane is overhead.

we had friends in wharoonga on their multimillion dollar estate, and each time the a380 would turn, place would have been smelly and noisy.

Thank you for the info and inputs.
The planes in the area don’t fly too low but low enough to make fair bit of noise constantly. Also it seems to make things worse when the path is right above the house.
I’m thinking to observe a few more days

The arrivals will be over your place in a southerly but you should be well clear of the northerly departures.

Whether or not you think the aircraft noise is too much is a really matter of opinion, but Lane Cove is certianly not the innerwest... and the curfew runs from 11pm-6am anyway.

I lived in Lane Cove, near Mowbray park. I found the planes flew too low for my liking. It was low enough to make a huge noise that stopped conversations and sometimes shook the house a bit. It sounds like that already bothered you so the chances are that will always bother you.

I live nearby, it is inconsistent.

Some days will have a few plans coming in to land in an hour then stop, most days there won't be any.

I spend a lot of time at Rotary Athletics field across the road - the planes are noticeable as they go directly overhead, but as mentioned - it will depened on wind direction as to how frequent they are.

How much you'd notice them inside the townhouse will depend on the building itself - obviously we're always outside on the field and so there's nothing to stop the noise. It rarely impacts us training or running an athletics carnival though.

It's a very convenient location - lovely area to walk down by the river, and very convenient if you like going for a run.

There's also the bike path along Epping Rd in both directions - so good for commuting as well. 533 bus route Chatswood to Olympic Park via Mowbray Rd is very convenient too.

Lane Cove is to the east of the main southern approach. The outer NAV beacon takes flights over West Pymble on a direct inbound approach. Sydney doesnt allow paths with a indirect landing approach (turn into late final) and all aircraft line up approx 10km out if not more. When the main runways are operating to the north due to winds the aircraft departure altitude is higher and also a turning climb is needed so Lane Cove wont receive departure noise

Lane cover is on the ridge so descending flights may appear lower in altitude but briefly and pass to the west of lane cove . The line up point is approx 200m past the tollway tunnel entry at Mowbray Rd. The aircraft are also on low powered descent to configure flaps and slats so engine noise is closer to idle until late final (and gear down) but that is on the southern side on the harbour. Missed approach line up may depart the line and power up on rare occasions. Heavies like A380s and freighters (747) are more likely to depart to rejoin by flying east to the coast then north and returning to the approach line. This could take them over Lane Cove under power in rare cases.

Being on the inner paths sometimes has benefits.

Proposed new flight paths for the new airport wont impact that area

Thanks for all the comments and valuable information.
Yes, the noise hasn’t been as bad as I thought initially. There were too many planes on that particular day in some reason.

Strong southerly wind preventing landing from any other direction most likely.
